Andriesen, Simon
Simon Andriesen is managing director of The Netherlands-based MediLingua, specializing in the localization of medical technology, biomedical, pharmaceutical, clinical trial and health-related information. He also manages Leesbaarheidstest.nl, which is a company specializing in readability testing of patient information, and coordinates and teaches a series of courses on medical and pharmaceutical translation. He has been part of the localization community since 1980 and was a founding member of INK, one of the first localization firms in Europe. Simon is a member of the advisory board of the Medical Round Table of the Localization World conferences.

Arnsparger, Jason
Jason Arnsparger is a translation project manager in the Technical Communications Department at Gambro BCT. He is responsible for managing the localization of product labeling and other technical documentation into over 20 languages. Jason has worked at Gambro BCT in various capacities since 2002 and joined the Technical Communications team as the first translation coordinator in 2004. For the past 6 months, Jason has been leading the implementation of Idiom WorldServer GMS and its integration with Astoria CMS. Jason has studied various aspects of linguistics since 1995, focusing on Latin American Spanish language and culture and received a B.A. in modern languages in 2005.

Arocha, Isabel S.
Izabel S. Arocha, is the cultural and linguistic educator at Cambridge Health Alliance. She oversees initiatives to increase the linguistic and cultural capacity and competency of the organization. She is an experienced consultant, trainer and group facilitator with a long history of language access advocacy. Isabel worked as a medical, conference, court and federal interpreter for many years prior to establishing her own translation firm, Global Mind, Inc. As president of the International Medical Interpreters Association, Isabel travels around Canada speaking on advancing the medical interpreting profession, and has recently participated in two expert panels — one on medical interpreter certification and another one on medical translation quality. She holds a Bachelor in Management from Lesley University, a Translation Certificate from University of Cambridge, England (1981), and a Masters in Education from Boston University. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and speaks French well.

Attarpour, Elham
Elham Attarpour is the operations manager of the Language Technology Center (LTC), in Washington, D.C. As a business development specialist, Elham has expertise in technologies, processes and workflows in the language industry and consults companies on process automation and optimization. She is a certified ISO Auditor (Loyds Registry Quality Assurance) and has a master’s degree in translation from the University of Saarbruecken, Germany, majoring in European and international law, as well as localization, machine translation and terminology management. Elham knows all facets of the language industry, since she worked in the translation and localization business as a freelance translator as well as a court translator, interpreter and language instructor before working as a project manager in one of the industry’s leading companies for several years. Elham is fluent in German, English, French and Farsi and has professional experience in the United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

Barabé, Donald
As vice president of professional services, Donald Barabé is responsible for the delivery of translation and linguistic services to the various departments and agencies of the federal government. He also represents the Translation Bureau in dealings with language industry stakeholders both nationally and internationally. In the past few years, he has appeared before a variety of associations and groups of translators in Canada and abroad to speak on the language profession.

Bendana, Lola
Lola Bendana has a degree in international relations with a specialization in Latin American Studies and English-Spanish interpreting and translation. She worked in Costa Rica as a cultural/foreign affairs facilitator with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as head of international relations with the Nicaraguan Committee for Refugees. After immigrating to Canada, she worked as a freelancer for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada offering pre-departure and intercultural effectiveness courses on Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Lola has been involved in the translation and interpreting field for over 15 years; and since 1997, she has been the Director of Multi-Languages Corporation. Presently, she serves on the board of AILIA as well as the Healthcare Interpretation Network where she acts as Chair of the Policy Committee and co-chair of the Multilingual Database Terminology Project, member of the Critical Link Canada Standards of Practice and Training Committee and recently joined the CAC to ISO TC37.

Boakye, Theo
Theo Boakye is has worked with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRBC) over the past 18 years. He has held many positions with the board, and presently he is the acting head, Interpreters and Recording Unit. In this position, Theo oversees the hiring, testing (accreditation), security clearances, training, contracts and so on of interpreters for all the divisions of the IRBC. The IRBC is the largest employer of interpreters in Canada.

Bonnet, Beatriz
Beatriz Bonnet is president and CEO of Syntes Language Group, Inc., a localization company based in Colorado. She is an award-winning leader who has grown Syntes to be in the top 100 minority-owned and woman-owned companies and a top 250 Private Company in Colorado. Beatriz was awarded the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce 2006 Minority Owned Business of the Year award, and she received the 2007 Enterprising Women of the Year award. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Translators Association from 1999 to 2005 and chairs the ATA’s Standards Committee.

Boucher, Johanne
Johanne Boucher is a founding member of AILIA, current member of the board of directors of OTTIAQ and manager of the Montreal Translation Unit for Amex Canada Inc. She worked for 20 years at IBM Canada where she occupied various positions from translation intern to technical translator, to administrative translation unit manager, to voice processing and software localization project manager and finally marketing programs manager. She then moved to CBC/Société Radio-Canada where she managed the Linguistic Services for two years and finally joined Amex Canada Inc. as translation unit manager ten years ago. She has been and continues to be active in professional and trade associations in Canada (ALSM , OTTIAQ, CTTIC and AILIA) and internationally (IFT, ATA and ICLC).

Brunelle, Éric
Computer specialist by training, Éric Brunelle has targeted French grammar correction issues following is master’s degree in 1985. In 1993, he co-founded Druide informatique with two associates and was named president. He designed, supervised and created Antidote, a French writing assistance integrated suite, a now best-selling software exported in France, Belgium and Switzerland. He is also behind the WebElixir service, which uses Antidote’s technology to ensure Web sites quality. Over the years, Druide has proved to be a solid and profitable business, enjoying an enviable growth and recorded, in 2008, 30 permanent employees. Aside from it’s advanced linguistics development, Druide also flourishes in delivering third party software, such as language learning software Talk To Me and Tell Me More.

Brunette, Louise
Louise Brunette has a Ph.D. in translation studies from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle. She teaches revision and translation at the Université du Québec in Outaouais. Before turning to teaching and research, Louise was a translator, reviser and terminologist for organizations such as The Bank of Nova Scotia, the CBC, and Honeywell Ltd. She has published many articles on revision, translation and standardization. She also teaches revision part-time at the Université Denis-Diderot, Paris.

Cargile, Tina
Tina Wuelfing Cargile, a certified project management professional, is business development manager in the Life Sciences Division, of McElroy Translation Company, where she has been employed since 1988. She earlier held the position of senior project manager. Tina earned her Project Management Professional credential in 2003. Her previous work experience was in publishing and music industries.

Champagne, Guy
Guy Champagne has been involved in marketing and management with organizations of national and international scope for almost 25 years. He holds an MBA and a Masters of Science. Guy has owned his own consulting firm since 1991. Within the language industry, Guy worked on the May 2002 Symposium, carried studies for the industry’s Technological Road Map, developed the Language Industry Association's (AILIA) business plan and acted as its initial executive director.

Champollion, Yves
Born in Paris, France, Yves Champollion is related to the famous Aegyptologist J-F Champollion. He was involved in the computing craze of the 1980s, produced various pieces of software (such as "Le Tableur Comptable," an iconoclastic spreadsheet designed for accountants), and got into freelance translation then into programming translation tools such as Wordfast – all for the sheer love and pleasure of it. Hobbies include traveling and learning languages (French, Latin, German and English — taught by the Fathers of Saint Vincent's College, to whom his heartfelt gratitude is hereby expressed — Spanish, Portuguese and Russian were added, as well as some Japanese and, last but not least, Shangana, a Zulu-related language of Southern Mozambique, where he sponsors a secondary school).

Chamsi, Alain
Alain Chamsi is the CEO of JiveFusion Technologies Inc., a Canadian company that specializes in computer-aided translation software development. Holder of a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree, he worked in the telecommunications industry for 21 years. He jumped to the language industry, first as the office director in a large translation company and then at the helm of JiveFusion Technologies, thereby combining his language industry and software development experience. Alain has been the chairman of the board of directors of AILIA, Canada’s language industry association, since 2006.

Cohen, Betty
Betty Cohen is the associate director of Linguistic Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada. A translator specializing in finance, she is the author of Lexique des cooccurrents – Bourse et conjoncture économique [lexicon of co-occurents – the stock exchange and economic conjecture], one of the first lexicons of its kind.Throughout her career, Betty Cohen has been very active in professional translator associations. As President of la Société des traducteurs du Québec [Quebec translators’ association] from 1990 to 1992, she played a significant role in obtaining the certification of certified translator, certified terminologist and certified interpreter and in the creation of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ) . She then moved on to the international level, as treasurer, then president, of the International Federation of Translators from 1996 to 2005. In 2004, Betty Cohen was made an honorary member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec.In the past few years, she has helped create quality standards for translation in Canada and is currently working on a project relating to restricting translation to certified translators in Quebec.

Combe, Karen
As vice president of localization at PTC, Karen Combe is responsible for product localization as well as localization support for global services, technical support and marketing. During the past seven years, she has implemented a complete localization solution for PTC, including an internationalization program, development of localization tools for emerging technologies, effective outsourcing partnerships and the creation of a globally distributed localization testing team. She manages a localization group of 60 people located in the United States, India, China and Japan.

Cyr, Jean-Pierre
Jean-Pierre Cyr, chartered accountant, has been chief executive officer of the CSF Inc. Translation firm since 2004. After working for five years for the PricewaterhouseCoopers accounting firm, a position that gave him the opportunity to work in Quebec City, Nouméa (New Caledonia), Sydney (Australia) and Paris (France), Jean-Pierre taught accounting for 5 years at Laval University in Quebec City. In 1996, he started working at the CSF Inc. Translation firm, where he supervised the company’s conversion towards translation services as the only source of revenue and the development of a computerized records’ management system. The number of employees doubled since Jean-Pierre’s appointment as CEO. Jean-Pierre Cyr is a founding member of AILIA and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Sainte-Foy/Sillery/Cap-Rouge, an organization helping underprivileged children in the Quebec region.

Des Rosiers, Caroline
Caroline Des Rosiers, French Communications Regional Manager, has been with CIBC for 14 years, devoting the past 8 to heading up the Quebec section of CIBC’s French Translation unit. Her primary areas of responsibility are Marketing Communications and compliance with French language regulatory requirements. In addition, she has been closely involved with translation vendor management, legal compliance, linguistic policy & standards implementation, terminology and quality control. Ms. Des Rosiers holds a Masters in English-French translation and a Certificate in German-French translation from Université de Montréal as well as a BA in German Studies from McGill University. She's currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Marketing Communications at HEC Montréal.

Désilets, Alain
Alain Désilets is a research officer at the Institute for Information Technology of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). He is cofounder of LOPLT, a multidisciplinary group of researchers from NRC and Université du Québec en Outaouais that aims at better understanding the technological needs of professional translators by observing and interviewing them in action in the workplace. He recently chaired WikiSym 2007, the 3rd International Symposium on Wikis. His latest work has focused on computer-assisted translation technology, with an emphasis on tools to help translators collaborate and share knowledge within worldwide communities of practice.

Doyle-Rodrigue, Jocelyne
Jocelyne Doyle-Rodrigue started her career at the Translation Bureau in the early 1970s after obtaining an honours degree in translation from the Université de Montréal and her certification from ATIO. She left in 1980 to found and manage her own company, Les Traductions Excelcom/Translex Inc., which was one of the largest translation companies in Canada when sold in 1997. She finally rejoined the Bureau in November 2001 as manager of sectoral development. She now holds the position of director, regional and multilingual translation, and national security. In 1996, Jocelyne received the award of excellence for company of the year in the medium- and large-sized business category from the Regroupement des gens d’affaires de l’Outaouais and in 1991 the Businesswomen’s Achievement Award for businesswoman of the year from the Women’s Business Network Association of Ottawa.

Figueiredo, Lisete
Lisete Figueiredo has more than twenty years experience as an administrator of interpretation and translation services in the health care sector. She recently left University Health Network to pursue a career in freelance consulting. Lisete has implemented and managed language services at both a community based hospital and a large teaching and cancer care facility. Her experience includes leadership and participation with advisory committees, district health councils, ministry of citizenship, workshops and information sessions for the community as well as a consultant in multicultural health. Lisete is a member of the Executive of the Board of Directors of Healthcare Interpretation Network, member of the Policy Committee and co-chair of the Multilingual Terminology Management Database Project. She is a board member of Critical Link Canada and chair of the Standards of Practice and Training Committee.

Ganzerli, Roberto
Roberto Ganzerli has been in the translation industry for over 25 years and has been president and CEO of Arancho, Multilingual Solutions, since 1993. The Arancho Group now comprises companies based in Italy, Spain and Finland. He is also president of ELIA – European Language Industry Association – the first pan-European company-to-company association in the language industry.

Gervais, Daniel
As cofounder of MultiCorpora R&D, Daniel Gervais has over 12 years of experience in the software industry. Daniel started as a mechanical engineer, specializing in production process automation in the manufacturing and automotive industry. He joined the MultiCorpora project in 1994 and has been responsible for product development and technology strategies and initial commercialization stages of the company. Since product launch in mid-2000, Daniel has led the sales and marketing initiatives. As executive vice-president, he leads the marketing and the professional services teams as well as the customer support group.

Ghislandi, Massimo
Massimo Ghislandi was named marketing initiatives manager for SDL Trados Technologies. A native of Italy, Massimo is a business administration graduate of Bocconi University, Milano ,and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. With over nine years of business-to-business marketing experience, Massimo has held positions within product marketing management and marketing communications departments at various large international corporations, including Avery Dennison and ITT Industries. With an area of expertise in terminology management software tools, he is now managing the worldwide marketing activities for SDL Trados Technologies.

Grap, Hannah
Hannah Grap, marketing communications manager at Language Weaver, joined the company in 2005 as it began to expand the business to meet the needs of commercial customers. Hannah handles Language Weaver's international marketing initiatives and works with strategic partners to develop joint communications. Her background is in marketing and technical communications in the financial services sector. Hannah holds a Master of Science degree in technical communications from the University of Washington.

Hanzlik, Vern
Vern Hanzlik is chief marketing officer for Sajan, Inc. His background includes 26 years in technology with the last 17 years in software development. Vern was one of the cofounders of Stellent Inc., an enterprise content management company that was sold to Oracle in 2006. He has led the technology direction for Sajan’s products for the last two years. One of his focused efforts at Sajan has been to create an enterprise approach to advanced multilingual data management.

Henes, Ulrich
Ulrich Henes is the president of The Localization Institute which he founded in the fall of 1996 because he saw a serious lack of quality training and learning opportunities in this important area. He has been involved with localization, first as an international sales and marketing manager (also serving as a localization manager) for a US software company and then as president of the American office of a British localization agency. He is a co-organizer of the Localization World conferences.

Hoft, Nancy
Nancy Hoft is the principal of Nancy Hoft Consulting. Established in 1991, Nancy Hoft Consulting is a training and consulting firm that specializes in effective techniques for communicating with multilingual and multicultural audiences. Nancy is also a Regulatory Affairs Associate for a medical device company in southwest Florida, specializing in US and European submissions and coordinating the translation of several corporate documents. She has won awards for both her writing and her website designs. Sponsors of her seminars and some of her clients include Microsoft, WebEX, Kodak, Ford Motor Company, Wal-mart, Disney, McDonald’s, Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands, and the World Health Organization in Switzerland.

Iler, Huiping
Huiping Iler is the president of Ottawa's wintranslation.com, a language service company that she founded in 1998. She frequently speaks at international conferences on issues related to website localization, cross-cultural communication, and search engine marketing for multi-language and multi-country sites. She has spoken at the Search Engine Strategies conferences, Ad-tech, Association of Language Companies' annual conference and Carleton University's Sprott School of Business. Her articles have appeared in Target Marketing, MarketingProfs.com, MultiLingual magazine and the American Translators Association's Chronicle.

Janczur, Axelle
Axelle Janczur has worked in the non-profit sector in Toronto for over twenty-five years. As a senior manager in a number of agencies serving immigrants and refugees, she has long been an advocate for access to services for groups facing individual or systemic barriers. As the executive director of Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services in recent years, she has been actively involved in addressing issues such as primary health care reform, cultural competence in health care, access and equity, determinants of health, and local planning for local issues. She currently plays an active role in the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (member of the executive) and the Healthcare Interpretation Network (president of the board of directors). Axelle has her masters degrees in political science and in business administration.

Jenkins, André
André Jenkins is the president and CEO of Canacom, a translation firm in Montreal. He has more than 38 years of experience in the translation field as a translator, revisor and business manager. André is an active member of AILIA's Translation Committee, as well as the Technical Committee of the Canadian General Standards Board, which is currently developing a Canadian standard for translation service providers.

Kelly, Robinson
As a professional in the localization and content management field, Robinson Kelly has extensive experience in the translation process and the globalization of enterprise-scale content projects. He has helped launch four technology start-ups over the past 15 years, including a Silicon Valley content management firm. As CEO and Founder of Clay Tablet Technologies, Robinson has spoken at numerous localization tradeshows and symposiums, from both individually and as a member of industry panels.

Lafontaine, Ghislain
Ghislain Lafontaine's career within the Canadian federal government spans over 16 years and various positions. He has worked on a wide array of research projects and industry development programs. He is currently employed at Industry Canada where he is responsible for the management of the Language Industry Initiative. He has a bachelor's degree in economics.

Léger, Mariette
Mariette Léger received a B.A. in translation from the Université de Moncton in 1985. She worked as a translator in the private sector in Ontario before joining the Lexi-tech International translation team in 1989. She was appointed linguistic services director (Moncton office) in 2000. She is also vice president and outgoing treasurer of NB Translation and was also a member of the CTINB executive for four years.

Linton, Jennifer
Jennifer Linton is the XML and CMS project manager at Gambro BCT in Lakewood, Colorado. From 2003 to 2007, Jennifer was a senior consultant at Comtech Services, during which time she authored Introduction to DITA: A User Guide to the Darwin Information Typing Architecture. She has worked with many companies implementing DITA-based and XML-based authoring environment and content management solutions. In 2006, Jennifer authored an O’Reilly shortcut manual entitled Beyond Schemas: Planning Your XML Model. Currently, Jennifer supports Gambro BCT’s move to XML authoring and content management in the technical communications and training departments. She helps to identify processes and procedures, personas, CMS requirements, develop the information model, train the users, and configure the content management system.

Melby, Alan K.
Alan K. Melby was involved in machine translation in the 1970s, in translator tools in the 1980s and in translation standards in the 1990s. His current interests include translation quality management standards, language data standards and community-administered terminology databases. He is currently director of the BYU (Brigham Young University) TRG (Translation Research Group); chair of the ATA (American Translators Association) Translation and Computers committee; and a member of the OSCAR Steering Committee and editor of the TBX standard.

Montero, Julio
Julio Montero is the regulatory and compliance manager of Able Translations Ltd. Prior to joining Able, Julio was a regulatory consultant in the field of international development, free-lance writer, translator and interpreter. Julio is a Certified Translator (ATIO) and holds a master’s degree in regulation, technology and society from McGill University. He is a member of the Policy Committee of the Healthcare Interpretation Network and alternate member of the Canadian General Standards Board Committee which is currently developing a Canadian standard for translation service providers.

Nackovski, Daniel
As president of across Systems, Daniel Nackovski is responsible for the North American business unit of across. A Swedish national, Daniel studied international business at the University of Kristianstad and attained a master´s degree in Strategic Management from the University of Lund. Daniel joined across Systems in 2006. His focus is to advise key account customers on language technology and translation workflows. He is also responsible for the management of the US partner network.

Paradis, Michel
Michel Paradis is originally from the Lower St. Lawrence region in Quebec. He completed two BAs in Montréal: one in political science, specializing in social marketing, and one in law, specializing in commercial law. While working as a consultant, he then completed various courses in marketing and international trade. For almost fifteen years, he ran his own consulting firm in the field of business development, import-export and marketing, and was a partner in a company working in the field of emergency medical communication. In December 2006, Michel joined the Centre international pour le développement de l’inforoute en français (international centre for development of the information highway among the French-speaking community) where he currently holds the position of CEO of the organization.

Parrish, Donna
Donna Parrish is coorganizer of the Localization World conferences and publisher of the magazine MultiLingual. Prior to her work at MultiLingual Computing, Inc., she was a computer programmer for 25 years. Donna holds a degree in mathematics from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Peralta, Gonzalo
As president of the Language Industry Association (AILIA), Gonzalo Peralta makes strategic use of over 25 years of collective experience he has acquired in the three main sectors of the language industry: translation, language technologies and language training. He has held various positions in all three sectors, spanning from the linguistic, operational, human resources and training and development side to marketing, financial and executive management roles. Gonzalo uses his experience to approach issues that arise in the language industry from all sides of the spectrum. Some of Gonzalo’s past positions include president and CEO of The BabelFish Corporation, consultant with Convivium Corporation, president of Living Language Services Inc., as well as numerous board and advisory positions with organizations such as CAPLS, CICF and Projet ACCORD.

Rinsche, Tobias
Tobias Rinsche is vice president of The Language Technology Center (LTC) in Washington, D.C. He has over seven years' experience in consulting on business process automation and optimization and on IT infrastructure. He has successfully managed some of the largest and most complex implementations of LTC’s business systems. Tobias provides comprehensive feedback and ideas for improvements and new features in LTCs software systems. He works with the marketing team, developing company and marketing strategies.

Rogers, Larry
Larry Rogers is president and cofounder of Lexi-tech International Inc., Canada's largest private language service provider. He began his career in the Information technology field and was instrumental in the creation, growth and overall success of Lexi-tech International inc, starting first as its vice president of operations and most recently leading them through six successive years of double digit growth, increasing company revenue more than two fold since his appointment as President in 2001. Larry holds a computer science degree from the University of New Brunswick (1985).

Schulman, Marla
As president of Schreiber Translations, Inc. (STI), Marla Schulman has over ten years of management experience in the translation industry. She currently serves as the elected President of the Association of Language Companies, an organization to which STI belongs as a charter member. In addition to her work in the language industry, she is a newly elected board member of B’nai Israel Congregation, and a board member of the Montgomery County Multiple Sclerosis Center.

Séguin, Michel
Michel Séguin holds a bachelor’s degree in translation and a master’s degree in terminology from the Université de Montréal. Over the past twenty years, Mr. Séguin has had a highly diversified career in terminology, translation and revision, in the federal public service as well as the private sector. A certified translator and terminologist with OTTIAQ, he has also been a member of the Association of Linguistic Services Managers (ALSM) since 2002. Michel has also sat on the ALSM board of directors, serving as chair in 2006. A member of the Joint Committee on Terminology in Canada (JCTC), representing the private sector, he also works on JCTC’s “Image and Recognition” Subcommittee. Among other things, he also teaches terminology and translation in the continuing education programs department at Université de Montréal. He is currently the French Services Coordinator for Imperial Oil Limited, where he has worked since 2002.

Serdynska, Marie
As coordinator of the Multiculturalism Program at The Montreal Children’s Hospital, Marie Serdynska is responsible for education and consultation in working across cultures and interpreter services. She was co-chair of The National Transcultural Health Conference, Montreal (May 2007). Prior to her current position, Marie was an advocate for youth rights at the Montreal Consortium for Human Rights Advocacy Training at McGill University. Previously, she held several positions at the YWCA in Montreal, including cross-cultural counseling and group animation with young mothers, coordination of International Development Education Program and participation in and animation of anti-racism workshops as well as the development of multicultural policies.

Shannon, Paula
Paula Shannon manages the global sales force and account management teams at Lionbridge Technologies and acts as the general manager for the company’s localization business worldwide. Paula joined Lionbridge in 1999 as vice president of internet alliances. Prior to joining Lionbridge, she was the chief marketing officer and vice president of international sales for ALPNET, Inc., now SDL. Paula has 22 years of experience in the industry, including ten years in senior roles with Berlitz International in California, Washington, D.C., and Canada. Paula is fluent in English, French, and Dutch, and functional in German, Spanish, and Russian. Educated in the US and Belgium, she holds a B.A. in Russian and German with a minor in Linguistics from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and was the recipient of the 2004 Stevie Award as “Best Sales Executive” and the 2006 Women in Business Award as “Best Canadian Executive”.

Sikes, Richard
Richard Sikes has been immersed in localization since 1989, having held senior localization management positions at several industry-leading software publishers. He now works as a freelance globalization management consultant and trainer. As well as his ongoing association with The Localization Institute, Richard is a Certified PASSOLO Trainer and is currently acting as director of sales and marketing for KCSL Inc., a web search and localization technology provider. He holds a B.A. in fine arts from the University of California, Irvine, Diplom Betriebswirt FH from the Folkshochschule Heidelberg, and an MBA from the University of Toronto. Richard has presented frequently on a wide variety of topics at Localization World and the Gilbane Conference, and his articles appear with regularity in MultiLingual magazine.

Simpson, Grete
Grete Simpson is the translation project manager and supplier liaison for Gambro BCT in Lakewood, Colorado. She is responsible for managing the localization of product labeling and other technical documentation into over 20 languages and maintaining relationships with Language Service Providers. Grete began her career in life sciences in 1996 and has been with Gambro BCT since 2001 working in administration and purchasing previous to joining the Technical Communications team in 2006.

Starkmann, Angela
Angela Starkmann is an independent project manager/translator/trainer and has worked as a linguistic specialist and project manager on the customer side (Medtronic) as well as on the service provider side (MTG).

Stefanov, Olaf-Michael
Olaf-Michael Stefanov completed almost 36 years with the United Nations before retiring in March 2008. As Chief, Library and Linguistic Support, UN Vienna and earlier of Electronic Support Services, he spearheaded numerous technological innovations over the past 17 years. He recently established the United Nations Library – Vienna, arranging digitisation of archives going back over 100 years. His professional interests include terminology — speech recognition in multiple languages and for translation. He has presented at and chaired numerous international professional meetings in the translation/terminology and library fields.

Stone, Corey
Corey Stone is currently a translation coordinator for Gambro BCT where he supports the localization and translation of technical documents and promotional material. Prior to his role as a translation coordinator Corey worked for Gambro as a technical writer, authoring technical documents for service material. Corey received his BA in history from the University of Colorado in 2006 and has been working in Gambro BCT’s Technical Communications department since.

Vang, Erin
Erin Vang is international program manager for the JMP R&D division of SAS and a member of SAS's terminology management corporate steering committee. Previously Vang was documentation and localization manager for Abacus Concepts and technical writer and quality assurance manager for SYSTAT. She holds a B.Mus. in music performance and mathematics from St. Olaf College and an M.Mus. in horn performance from Northwestern University. She is a PMI-certified Project Management Professional and has studied facilitative leadership with Roger Schwarz Associates, Interaction Associates and the National Coalition Building Institute.

Vincent, Daniel
Daniel Vincent cofounded and operates SkySpa Station, a Nordic spa in Montreal, and consults for companies in the language industry. Daniel founded and operated the Language Technologies Research Centre in Gatineau as director general. He is also the former founding president of the Canadian Language Industry Association. Previously, Daniel launched and was president and CEO of Documens Inc, was vice president of localization with Sykes Inc,; and was president of ALPNET Canada. In the four years prior to ALPNET, Daniel was vice president of finance and operations for Comp-u-Card Canada, Inc., an online merchandising company. Daniel holds the following degrees: BBA, MBA, and CMA.

Warburton, Kara
Kara Warburton has been responsible for IBM's terminology management program for over ten years. Outside of IBM, she has played a key role in developing and promoting best practices and standards for managing terminology, in ISO and LISA. Kara teaches terminology at York University and has given conferences and workshops about terminology internationally. She is currently working with Alan K. Melby on the TBX standard for terminology data. She holds an MA in terminology from Université Laval.

Wittgrebe, Ralph
Ralph Wittgrebe graduated as Diplom-Politologe in Berlin. After studying business administration, he established a freelance translation business in Berlin. He was trhen a lecturer for translation at Akademie für Fremdsprachen Berlin. From 1990 through 1998, Ralph was a member of the board of examiners for translators and interpreters at the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He then became the chairman of the board for this organization, a position he still holds. His translation business now includes an Irish translator and an Italian translator.

Wolochwianski, Rosana
Rosana Wolochwianski holds a licenciate degree in translation from the National University of Rosario, Argentina, and has been Accredited by the American Translators Association for the English>Spanish pair since 2001. She is the founder and director of CEIT (Centro de Estudios e Investigación sobre la Traducción), a local center for translation studies and research, and is also a member of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies. Rosana is doing research on machine translation and has presented her preliminary findings in several national and international events in the last two years.

Zerfass, Angelika
Angelika Zerfass holds a degree in translation (Chinese/Japanese) from the University of Bonn. She worked at the Japanese Embassy in Bonn, Germany, before joining TRADOS in 1997. She was responsible for the training and support for Microsoft projects using TRADOS tools (1998 in Japan, 1999 in the United States). Since 2000, she has worked freelance as a trainer and consultant for translation tools and related processes.
